The Sketchbook Project: Limited Edition Vol. 1
If you knew me before Twitter even existed, you know that I love to journal and kept many journals for years. And if you follow me on Twitter, you have probably seen me tweet about Art House Co-op’s The Sketchbook Project 2012. I was thrilled when I first learned about The Sketchbook Project and immediately signed up—that is, after deliberating for days what topic I should choose. I cannot wait to show off my sketchbook on the world wide web (I signed up for my book to be digitized for the online library) and to physically scan my book’s barcode and actually check my own book out at The Gladstone Hotel (the books go “on tour” across North America and will be in Toronto from July 18-22!) I just recieved my sketchbook a week ago and still haven’t found the time to put ink on a page. Soon! First, though, I need to carefully plan out my pages!
Today, Art House Co-op just announced The Sketchbook Project: Limited Edition Vol. 1, a brand new collaborative project limited to only 5,000 artists from around the globe. For this project, participants from anywhere in the world can sign-up for a topic, receive a blank sketchbook, fill up the pages and send it back, just like The Sketchbook Project 2012.
Like TSP2012, the books will be exhibited in NYC and cataloged in the Brooklyn Art Library, and artists can also choose to digitize their work to be archived in the Digital Libary; however, unlike TSP2012, there will be a Limited Edition Book that will be physically printed, and artists can choose to publish their work in this book (which I think is pretty damn cool!)
What is Limited Edition? From the Art House Co-op website:
The Limited Edition presents a series of experiments inspired by the Sketchbook Project. Each Limited Edition project brings together a smaller community of artists to share the Sketchbook Project experience in a whole new way.
I love the idea of creating a smaller community within this global village for those with similar interests to participate and belong.
Within the day, 597 spots have already been filled. I’ll probably sign up within the next day or two before the theme I want gets chosen! Let me know if you plan to participate, too. And if you’re in Toronto, maybe we can even have a sketchbook session at Starbucks one cold winter day!
