I Got Früli in my Hair
Somehow, having Früli in my hair reminds me of the Jason Mraz song “Lucky” and the line: I’ll put a flower in your hair… But no, it wasn’t as glamourous as hearing the music fill the air on an island with Mr. A-Z.
In short, I was at Real Sports with my boyfriend and friends waiting for a 8 pm reservation. This was a get-together for a friend’s going-away. While waiting, I drank too much Früli—three-quarters of the little bottle—on an empty stomach and ended up paying dearly + scaring the bejeezus out of my boyfriend and friends. I think it’s hilarious what happened, but them not so much.
Let me put this in context by stating that it’s not the first time this happened. It’s occurred once in university when I finished a bottle of Corona without eating dinner and waited 45 minutes for a bus that never came on a humid day, and another time in a Cuban resort after having three drinks of different alcohol late at night and riding an elevator that lacked any kind of ventilation. Notice a pattern?
All in all, my head and knees may be slightly bruised, and maybe the table hockey machine took a slight beating, but my ego is undamaged and I’d gladly share this story with anyone who cares to hear it. C’mon, it’s funny! Lesson learned: always eat before drinking, and have a glass of water nearby. What can I say? I’m a small Asian girl. Lightweight!
The rest of the night was super. We had a table at the far end with a great view of the giant TV. The food and cola were great—no more alcohol for me, duh—and it was the first night of the NHL playoffs! The teams I wanted to win won. It was unbelievable when the whole place erupted into song as the Canadian anthem was being sung at the Canucks game!
And if you’re wondering what I ordered, I got the same thing I ate the first time I visited Real Sports: buffalo chicken sandwich. But this time, Caesar salad instead of fries. So good.
