A Day at LG Fashion Week 2011
Today, I traded in television and film for fashion.
I (finally) attended my first shows at LG Fashion Week today, with thanks to Janet and Toronto Styles for the passes. What a fun and glamourous experience!

Since it was my day off, I slept in (not surprising), and we arrived at Heritage Court in Direct Energy Centre for the 2pm show. The place looked amazing, decorated in white and with chic furniture and lighting. I wanted to take home the couches as well as lamps in the media lounge:

So first up was the Label studio show. I loved the intro montage with a girl getting out of bed and throwing on a t-shirt, leggings, sweater around her waist, necklace, boots, then lighting a cig to top it off. It was a marriage of fabric: leather, velvet, velour, cotton and chiffon. The collection was grungy, fresh and young. It was also a nice surprise to see someone I knew from high school modeling for this show (see her at 0:55 of the Designer Video. Is it strange I feel proud that my graduating class seems to have accomplished a lot?)

Next up was Shan. It was a nice reminder that summer is almost here! There was swimwear, topless male models, dresses and wardrobe malfunction (yes, we saw double nip slips.) All kidding aside, this was one of my favourite collections incorporating the patterns I love: you can actually see some of it on their site right now. New set of polka dot bikinis, anyone?
If you’re wondering what the runway and set-up is like at LGFW, here is a look:

Last show for me—Jon and I were already exhausted from waiting at this point—is the Chloe comme Parris show. This collection was dominated by buckles, thick, dark colours, and cute crystals and icicles. I don’t know how I missed it, but a model’s necklace broke during the final walk and her icicle necklaces spilled all over the runway. I ended up with a piece of it myself!
I have also just learned this very minute that all my Tweets spelt “Parris” wrong. #damnyouautocorrect

I’ve got more photos that I may/may not post from my DSLR (the above are all from my phone). We’ll see!
Speaking of fashion, I just read that Lily Allen is launching a new collection of vintage dresses for Lucy in Disguise. How I would love to own all her dresses. That girl has great taste! And how much do you love websites (like her label’s) that use all of the browser space for a full-page video? Sexy. Can’t wait for her line!
For now, so long and goodnight. Tomorrow, it’s back where I belong: the world of web, television and cinema—and an advance screening of Hanna!
A Winning, Eventful Week
This week has been very kind to me. After two weeks and weekends of non-stop craziness (due to work and other obligations), I am—surprisingly—finding peace and happiness during the work week.
I usually don’t enjoy packing my weeknights with events in fear of exhausting myself and being tired at work, but, up until tonight, I had quite the week planned:
Monday: Pizza night with the boyfriend (try-to-relax night)
Tuesday: Catch-up dinner with former boss
Wednesday: Limitless advanced movie screening with bf + @ayl + Bradley Cooper and possible dinner at Salad King
(When I think Bradley Cooper, all that comes to mind is what a cute couple he and Eric Dane make!)
Thursday: Win x 2: watch the Leafs win (so optimistic) + win the auction to my must-have bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs - Classic Q Hillier Hobo
Friday: Down-time with boyfriend; the usual (fantastic) Friday night
Yes, this is considered an eventful week to me…
Well, little did I know that I’d be in for a treat tonight. For one, dinner with my former boss saw us dining at Terroni. One of tonight’s pasta specials is gnocchi di gamberi—homemade gnocchi with zucchini, tiger shrimps, basil and cherry tomatoes—which of course resolved my usual indecisiveness. The pasta was soooooooo damn good. Chatter with the ex-boss was extremely fun and insightful. Learning more how the industry works and gossiping about different company structures is my kind of nerd talk. It was a relatively quick dinner, but we had a blast. As I had hoped, my plan to treat her to dinner worked. I’ve been wanting to express my gratitude as she had essentially put me where I am today after hiring me two years ago. Another check mark on that to-do list!
Of course, I come home to unwind, watch some Gossip Girl and do nothing else besides Tweet. And then this happens:

How absolutely splendid is that? Off to LG Fashion Week I go, two weeks from today!
Follow @TorontoStyles if you would like to win too. Thanks again, Janet & friend!
