Kooky and Naive Me: Skipping Out On Free Edge Shows
Twice this week I made the choice to skip the free acoustic performances at 102.1 The Edge. After seeing almost every single show since the summer, I opted to skip the two that took place this past Monday and tonight (I had also skipped the one last Friday). Why? Because it’s always cold, always late (as far as staying at the office after work goes), and I have a long commute. And because it’s winter—which isn’t much of an excuse, though you must admit the sun goes down too early: no wonder I have the blues.
Anyone who knows me well knows I’m a music buff who has a hard time passing up a free concert, especially if they are of bands I love, so it pained me on Friday to miss the joint performance by Bedouin Soundclash + K-OS. I did encounter them outside as I left work; we took turns holding doors for each other. They sounded great on radio, so I can only imagine how much fun it was in studio.
On Monday, Neverending White Lights visited the studio. I thought NWL would only perform songs from Act III: Love Will Ruin to promote the new album, and since I was not yet familiar with it, I was fine skipping the show knowing I’d see them the next day. Little did I know, the second of two songs performed would be “The Grace”, and Daniel Victor had brought Bed of Stars with him to the studio. Now, having watched and heard Evan Konrad perform at last night’s NWL show, it would have been rad to be there and witness “The Grace” being sung acoustically on-air by those two, because, boy, that guy can sing.
And tonight, I missed The Kooks. I’m especially disappointed for missing this show because the UK boys rarely come to town, and I definitely again assumed that they’d only sing new songs that I wouldn’t know (I just never learn). At 7:15pm, the guys performed two songs, and the second song was—of course—”Naive”. At least I was able to record the end of it. You can listen to the clip above and tell me I’m ridiculously silly for leaving work 30 minutes before they started performing.
